no powder based guns or shooting weapons like crossbows.
1 on 1 with hand-to-hand combat weapons!

Finally a thread that i am interested in finding out the answer to.

I would say the pirate would win as if the battle took place on a ship, then the ninja could possibly get sea-sick if he/she isn't used to being on a boat. Thus giving the pirate the chance to stab them while they are being sick.

If the battle was on land, it has to be the ninja.
Hard one to call though as their is lots of factors to weigh up. Maybe the thread started should be more specific with the location.

japan had boats, so ninjas are used to marine environments. some might even have been sailors or fishermen \o/

the rules would be open field, mid day and only their close combat weapons. no rules, only to kill or get killed \o/

Well in hand to hand probably ninja but if there are ropes pirates might be able to do ninja like swinging 360 degree windmill kicks but if ninjas were to have throwing knives, the pirates won't know what would hit them.
