Is Vista worth it yet?

I'm running Windows XP. So I'm wondering, now that it's been over a year since it was released, is Vista worth buying yet?

Seriously, let me know.

I think for the most part it's ready, but it probably would be a good idea to wait for VistaSP1(Service Pack 1). It should be ready in another month or so. It will incorporate some significant fixes/changes in it.

Here's an article regarding the changelog from Micro$oft detailing the upcoming changes...

Take special note of the performance increase and crash fixes.

do you guys (ownage and wise) have Vista?

I have not had more problems when I switched from xp32 bit to Vista 64 than when I switched from 98 to XP. Only thing I had to do basically was choose another program for unzipping. Then again, I did buy a new pc, c2d with 4gb ram and a 8800gts, so my system was up to par for an upgrade. So if your pc can handle it try and get a vista version to test it I would say

I run Vista64 Business on one machine and XP64 on another. The Vista machine gave me huge fits at first (particularly the video drivers) but it has, for the most part, stabilized. I still think Vista has minor problems and hopefully SP1 will solve a lot of them but I also think that moreover, Vista is a good OS.

i never use a new OS, especially from microsoft, before it has some runtime. so far i always had the feeling that the first versions of a windows Os are beta testing and if im a tester i wanna know about it.
and i never had a prob so far, just switched to XP 1.5 years ago.
i will definately wait till SP1 comes out for vista and then only when i got the money to get a DX10 vidcard otherwise its not necessary.

its worth it if your not buying it. otherwise i dont think its worth the money. nothing new, except more lag unless you have a pwnage computer =P if you just want the look and feel of vista but XP performance and abilities get the vista transformation pack. it gives everything thats vista like. a side bar, and transparency, even the 3D app. switch thing. i have it and i think its worth it, my friend has real vista and i dont really like it. i like the way it looks but not the way it operates.

Same here, I've got pretty much the same specs and have had no problems with vista. A lot of people that use XP whine about Vista not supporting a lot of programs, but I have only run across one that does not work on my computer, and that's because I'm using 64bit.... iTunes... go figure.

Anyways, if you have the computer, go for it. With the new service pack coming out in the next month or so, any problems that you might have will be short lived.

yeah. I have a DX10 card (8800 GT). Plus, I'm about to upgrade to 4 GB of RAM. I'll be more than Vista-ready. I just need to decide if it's ready yet.

no point in going for 4 gb. the OS only recognizes 3.25 gb. so your throwing your money away, just go with 3 gb or even 2.5 cuz there is absolutly no diffrence in performance between 2.5 and anything more than that.

Maybe. I'll look into that. I already have 2 GB and 2 more will only be about $50, so I'm thinking I might as well future-proof my system right now. Plus, the more the better, right?

Vista 64 bit does, I'm using 4094MB ram now and I'm also the first one in the map when playing BF2 nice for when you want a jet or chopper I also use sata raid 0 which also helps.

Vista is by far the best operating system I've ever used and I have had every OS Microsoft has come out with.
I just put it on my kids PC because I got tired of them having problems with XP it's been on there's for a good month now and not a danm problem also they like myspace and get popups ect, Vista windows defender put a stop to that.

Waiting for Service Pack 1?
There's really no need to mine hasn't crashed one time and I've had it since it came out.

Yup, I have 4 GB of RAM with 64 bit vista and have no problems with it. At this point there is no reason to get 32 bit vista, or any OS for that matter because just about every processor is 64 bit.

When I do upgrade, it will be to the 64 bit. So I should go with the 4GB RAM?
