War technologies in bf2142

Poll

Do you think the war technologies used in BF2142 are realistic and that they could happen?

pretty simple question I hope everyone answers correctly lol

I see it as all possible, but the likelyness of both sides using the mostly the same exact types of wepons, ie: The voss, baur, zeller ect. is pretty small... And I see BF2142 having not enough air crafts...
"New expansion will contain the following.

*Mind blowing installation problems
*Even worse server crashes
*Frustration meter (to calculate how mad you really are)
*On site tech support, everyone get s a tech support at home
*15 new unlocks (will be revealed after some witty thoughts have been but in to it)
*Outstanding game play, with excessive lag spikes
*2 new game modes (shoot the EA tech guy & hostile take over of EA)

That pretty much sums it up nicely."

Walkers aren't really realistic if you know what I mean especially if you are thinking about ones like EA has in the game :P

I have to mention the obvious, The PAC's Energy Weapons and Hover Tanks, Very unlikely by this time, not to mention the floating titian, Don't think that one would ever happen.

The walkers i believe are possible, if you have an energy source small enough to fit and power such a heavy vehicle. They would start out small like they are in the game, and get bigger as time went on, more weapons would be added, more functions... The Battle walker is just the first step in to the next generation of Mech battles.

And there would be more Aircraft... Air support is the ultimate office and defense to any ground war. Which is why they left out the Aircraft scene in this game, to promote the ground pounding mayhem that ensues.

what do you mean if you had unlimited funds you could a fully functional one as of today !

they just to expensive yet to build to make sense

how much weaponry you put on it is a choice not question or realism, you could paint it pink as well.. although its not very likely to happen you could
----------
BTW i voted YES, although the year and tech level are NO,
some things will be a lot sooner, some maybe later, few are not realistic, some are already in invented and in use

the one thing i would not put my hand in to fire is anti-gravity drive.. that might not be possible (i hope i'm wrong about that)

I like how they still use bullets. I mean yea lasers are cool but common in a portable weapon not so realistic. Im not an expert so im sure one of you will chew me out on that but i think the tech is totally realistic and i like it.

I think the levitation issues are the most glaring departures from anything that's plausible in the next 200 years.

Still, the weapons are if anything a little conservative for futuristic stuff.

The other day I downloaded a documentary about future weapons which showed a railgun so powerful they had to carefully limit the discharge to stop the thing destroying itself.

There is already a sniper rifle (called the Shytech Intervention System) which features a computer that alters the crosshairs to account for the rotation of the earth while the bullet is in flight! It's accurate against a human sized target to over one and a half miles, at which range it's normally still a one hit kill.

Elsewhere in this forum, you can see a video I posted of real UAVs that look just like the ones in the game.

The thing that pisses me off most about the game isn't how poorly it models the future (for it does that quite well in a few ways) but rather how it limits human actions sometimes. ...You know, when you're trying to move quickly and some bit of scenery or building sort of freezes you as you're trying to run, just long enough so you get shot. That sucks big time.

If EA made it a bit "smoother" to move around on foot, then I would put up with the somewhat tame future weapons, and implausible future transport.

I'm not sure about the levitation, it could happen. I just saw a video one boreme.com that demonstrated the possibility of jetpacks - clicky and if this technology is taken further, it could be applied to a tank. I can't quite picture lasers coming into play, simply because of the power needed to generate a beam.

MetalStorm, an Australian weapons manufacturer has some frankly amazing stuff, including homing bullets and a gun that fires a million bullets in a minute.

I dislike the way all the cars and vehicles are capable of killing you if you walk into them as well. That seems a little odd. Also, the accuracy on the weapons is quite frankly stupid, but I would say thats a game balance issue, something that this game suffers from to ridiculous levels.

I loved your video (which has done the round on the net ...deservedly), but the levitation really is a sticking point. Jet and rocket solutions take a lot of fuel/power, and so they'd not let tanks just hover in perpetuity the way they do in the game.

There's a way of exploiting relativity theory to get a TINY bit of thrust from microwaves, but it's so small it would take years to start something accelerating even in a weightless vacuum.

MetalStorm stuff is great for domestic territory where you have a good local ammo supply, but for fighting foreign wars it's only really good as an occasional tactical backup weapon, simply because it eats up so much ammo.

Plus, metalstorm small arms can't be used in urban settings, because they tend to punch through too many walls at once, making blue on blue (friendly fire) too likely.

All good fun eh? :)

Yes indeed, but point one of their mental million bullet guns skywards, and you can kiss goodbye to that arty strike before it even hits the ground. Also, it's all electronic, so an EMP would knock it out as well. I just reckon the recon kit should get controllable scout drones, like metalstorm have developed. The one which is basically a Remote control helicopter with a drum mag grenade launcher stapled on is sure to be a winner every time

Come to think about it, I'd love to see a metalstorm unlock for the Voss, so you fire off all 40 rounds in under a second.

It would be handy for walker vents anyway. :)

It would even make quite a sensible unlock, because in metalstorm mode, your ammo would limit your killing chances to the number of mags you carried. Against infantry it would be like a shotgun with fewer shots but better range.

Against vehicles it would be worth using rather than not.
