Did we have too much truth in there for ya?

Is this true, i mean did Acekilla really write this and did he have a post that got removed?

The last thing i saw was that he made goodbye-post without any harsh words.

Yup, Acekilla defintely wrote that... in 2002, before he joined the Dev team.

Ok. Just to clearify, this is from the official forum, not here. As we all know the official forum isnt very allowing.

I didn't immediately see the date of this and was like 'they did this shit again?!'

Luckily (or unluckily) I finally saw the date (it was sounding too familiar). What happened to us out in California won't happen in Alabama thats for sure.

HAHA that forum quote is still going around?! - I wrote that 15 years ago (yikes!) before they hired me and I was arguing for VOIP inclusion in this team-work based game (it wasn't in yet, and teamspeak wasn't really a big thing yet either). If I remember right, I was in an argument with another passionate player about which feature deserved the dev team's priority.

And yes, AA3 needed more experienced devs (we were all green) and about double our team size to hit our and the Army's goals. Unbeknownst to us, the date we had we thought we might be able to slip was completely immovable (all funds/assets going to AL on that date). But the Army (our budget) was literally out. So the game (and devs) who were there were both being shipping out that morning heh.

I'm not really bitter about it anymore, just sad for the players that never got the AA3 it deserved and for my rookie lead designer mistakes that certainly impacted things (over-complicating systems, not delegating, etc.) But the silver lining is that several entry level devs got better jobs after (myself included) and learned a ton. But don't take that the wrong way, we ALL loved AA. Nobody would have left, we wanted to finish it (and had some really cool future plans).

I'm still grateful for the opportunity that the Army gave me, albeit they could of handling things much better is all. But we all know about how large gov't organizations fair (there was politics involved too).

Oh and believe me when I tried and tried to convince them to use Steam instead of Pragmatic. :ranting: My hunch has always been they were keeping some shady game stats on players they didn't want Steam to know about, or more likely they just went with the cheaper backend solution.

Here was some of the AA team in the war room watching the public play AA3 for the first time, right after being layed off. This were our last moments in the studio together. Which was even shittier because we had planned to finally play with the public all day on release day (we were given assurances the backend would be stable).

Hi OGAceKilla, thanks for some inside info, when I saw email with notification that someone responded to this thread, I was like "this can't be right". It's cool to hear that you guys did found better jobs. It's shame what happen to whole project, I remember how I waited every week for new AA3 news. I even downloaded build that leaked to the internet, I was so hyped. I told my clan colleagues that in the new AA you would have to do this and that, new medic system and everyone was like "yee that's awesome". And after that fail launch, we really had to force ourself to play that game, like "hey this is fun right ?? Yee sure, after they gonna fix ammo bug, and spawn bug and all others bugs in this game. Man this feel rush". Army screw that one up really bad. Now looking at Steam stats AAPG 474 players online, man.

Thanks for the reply Terel, yeah some nights it's hard to sleep thinking about my partial responsibility and failure of AA3. :( And I don't blame anyone on the dev/qa team either, it was an impossible situation that we just couldn't solve in time. I am confident the vision we had would have been a good version if we could have finished it. I know I've said it before but I'm personally so sorry to all AA fans for what happened with AA3. No game really lasts forever (in popularity) but I do agree that AA3 was likely the beginning of the end (but hope I'm wrong, I just can't see the Army putting in the required marketing money though, especially if they're hitting recruitment quotas). :(

You could have at least had the common decency to wait 10 years before a bump ... :D

But thanks for all the nice information :)
