Discontinue Authentication Support for America's Army 2

Quoted

Over the past nine years more than 12 million registered players have fired billions of rounds as they played in millions of matches. These stats clearly show how hugely successful America's Army 2 has been. Our goal for the future is to make the current America's Army game and future releases even more successful than those in the past, and we're determined to see that happen.

For that reason, as we move forward we are concentrating all our resources on future releases of the game. Unfortunately this means that as of December 18, 2011, we will no longer be supporting the authentication system or statistics tracking for America's Army 2. The game will still be available to play in free-play mode, without Honor points being accrued. AA2 will still be the same game, with the same action and same fun. Matches can still be held and competitions won and lost. Just without the point system.

We hope our long time AA2 fans understand that this decision is in the best interest of the development of America's Army and its players as a whole. We hope they continue to enjoy the 2 series as long as they like.

On our end nothing will change, except that we will remove the "honor" statistic from profiles and toplists.

We will continue tracking your AA2 stats here as long as people playing this game.

Except "honor" we never used any official stats here and tracked all stats on our own. So I don't really care about "official stats".

But when auth will get shut down on 18th we probably have to check here if we stop tracking stats by playername and switch it to GUID tracking. When auth is down it might be possible that everyone can play with every playername, so we can't track by unique playernames anymore and have to identify your accounts by Punkbuster GUID then. We will see ...

uhhhh so that means ???

that would mean that everybody that does still play aa 2.8.5 or any other type of AA2 is beeing forced to play AA3 but there are surtend people like myself that really doesnt like AA3 at all AA2 is way better then AA3 but everyone has their own thoughts about it off course i think its weird that they force people to play another game gamestyle when there are still lots of players playing the older version
but you all probebly have a reason to do this so good luck i will still be playing AA2 cause its the best game style that there is

Mr winters...you cant deny this is a way to try and choke 2.8 to make 3.0 more popular...i think its pathetic...why the hell they waste money on 3.0 i dont know..it will never be as popular as AA2 versions...AA going from bad to worse....it wont be AA2 that dies it will eventually be AA3 that fades...the scary thing is..that no one at AA goes...ohhhh maybe we did something wrong...why hardly anyone play our game anymore....but noooo...they say hey lets make more of the same crap...sheep would do better job then developers of that game...you dont kick people who have stayed loyal to game for years teeth and expect the game to survive...im staying on AA2 for sure..i will even throw in more servers

America's Army is, and i guess forever will be my favorite game. I've been around since the first version released (56kb interwebsconnection ftw!) and i enjoyed this game very much. i must say i miss all the good ol' fun back when you could actually find a full server 24/7 on almost every map.

Dropping the support for aa2 means letting it die. I just dont see how all of it is supposed to help aa3 improve. cutting support for aa2 sure wont get me to play aa3. aa3 will still be garbage even after aa2 is made vanish. even if its free... its  !!! to me this is all laughable.

aa2 went from excellent to still ok during its lifespan. maybe aa3 will rise like a phoenix from the ashes and turn into an actually playable, good game. i wouldn't hold my breath for it though.

In my opinion they should sell the rights for AA2 to activision or some other decent gamefactory and let them do a makeover of the original aa2! let capable people handle the job.

my two cents

This is a good point.I'd suggest to start with the guid method now (few days before full auth is down) to prevent any noobs and bored players to use any other nicknames.
I remember the days back on 2.5 and 2.6 when auth was down any1 could use a playername and just use the player "admin" powers..it will be the same here,We need to take preventive steps as long as we can

Dont understand why they would stop supporting AA2 when you still have plenty of servers paying $30 a month for honor.

I guess they dont like free money.

Anyone not playing AA3 is not going to jump on the wagon just because they shut down AA2.

What they need to do is scrap AA3 and improve on the best tactical shooter out there. (AA2)

I dont think you will be able to get tracker to work after 18th. Guid will be randomly assigned every time you join a server, and every player will be able to play with any nick.

like im gonna trust steam statistics

aint it a shame that a game that had 100s of 1000s has been reduced to maybe 1000...and they want to develop it futher...talk about not getting the messages...i think baboons would do better job making AA work..there are more people on AA 2.8 then on 3.1 there isnt any doubt...and IF by chance those stats are right frankhof...the AA 2.8 numbers will be alt higher also...not very good advertising for this website if stats are all wrong :w00t:

The statistics are not wrong, battletracker is just displaying AA 3.1.1 and not AA 3.2 (latest version).
